SOURCE OF COMMON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION AREA

Short description:

The objective of the project was to create support for the promotion of the use of biofuels for a sustainable development of the cross-border Giurgiu-Ruse area. The project promoted the collaboration between the research institutes, universities and SME’s in the sector and fostered the innovation and technological transfer between these entities. It formed an informational network between science and production, almost inexistent at this moment in Romania and Bulgaria.

The project created support for the economic and social development of the Giurgiu-Ruse area, to better exploit the opportunities offered and the local potential in the cultivation of plants used for obtaining biodiesel and the local interest in the production and use of biofuels.

The main activities were focused at the elaboration of studies on the yields of plants and biofuels; creation of a data base and an internet portal for dissemination of information; elaboration of training courses for farm producers and processors; conferences, seminars, demonstrations, workshops; creating a network of research institutes, universities, farm producers, processors and other stakeholders with interest in the area.

The project was implemented in partnership with 4 Bulgarian and Romanian universities and research institutes.
