Today, March 3rd, is the national holiday of Republic of Bulgaria. On this day, 139 years ago, the country managed to gain its freedom from Ottoman rule. This happened after a victory for Russia in its war with the Ottoman Empire. In this war, Russia was aided not only by the Bulgarians, but also by Romanians, Finns and Serbs. After the end of the war, a peace treaty was signed in the Istanbul district San Stefano, which proclaimed that Bulgaria is a free country.
