For the 2010 – 2015 period, Ruse is the leader of Northern Bulgaria and it is also in the Top 3 of the country when it comes to the increase of its contribution to the GDP – 30.7%. There are only two districts, which have achieved a bigger increase – Sofia (35.1%) and Stara Zagora (31%).
It is understandable that the district of Sofia is in the lead, since the country’s capital is situated there, which makes the region attractive for investments. However, it is necessary to point out that such a concentration of resources and investments in one district can’t be good for the economy of the country as a whole. Stara Zagora, on the other hand, is mainly dependant on its energy industry. Other leading districts are Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas.
With regards to the regions – the South-Central region is in the lead of GDP increase for 2015 with its 10%. The last place is taken by the North-Western and North-Central regions, where the increase is only 1%. The main reasons are the bad infrastructure and the lack of a leading economic center.
