From the beginning of the year until the month of May, the Romanians have purchased 717 electric vehicles. This includes pure electric cars and plug-in hybrids. The increase, compared to the same period last year, is 185%. Only for the month of May, there are 169 electric vehicles’ sales in Romania – an increase of 20% compared to the same month last year. Although the sales of electric cars are only 1,6% of the total automobile sales, one can easily see that the trend is for a stable increase of that quota. This can be attributed to the considerable subsidy that the Romanian government provides to the citizens through the program Rabla Plus, in which a financial aid is offered to every individual, who has decided to purchase an electric vehicle.
The most popular pure electric cars in Romania are Mercedes, BMW and Audi, while the most sought after plug-in hybrids are Toyota and Lexus.
