Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry starts a new initiative in support of the joint economic prosperity of the cross-border region between Bulgaria and Romania. This initiative aims to attract tourists to 10 unexplored and little-known fishing communities on either side of the Danube.
In order to do this, a number of new initiatives will be implemented within project Memofish, which is supported via the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria 2014-2020 Programme. For the first time, the heritage of the fishing communities in both countries will be researched under a special methodology and implementation, the result of which will be a huge database of digitized sites, accessible to everyone – a contribution to the work of both cultural heritage researchers and the tourism industry.
The new tourist products within the project will be one of a kind, because they will include sites from fishing villages in Romania and Bulgaria and at the same time different variants for different groups of people will be developed – families, young people, organized tourists.
On a political level, the activities will be supported by new regional development documents in the cross-border area, providing an economic benefit based on alternative tourism, which combines familiarization with the fishing traditions with preserving ecological equilibrium along the Danube.
BRCCI’s partners in the project implementation are the “Parallel-Silistra” Association, Regional Historical Museum – Ruse, Association “Access” – Calarasi, Local Fishing Group “Dunarea Calaraseana”.
